In November of 2018, Central Baptist Church in Hartford welcomed Alexis LaNelle Hartman (now Maxwell) to be their soprano section leader. She was just starting her first year in college for Voice Performance and Music Education.
In April of 2021, the Music Director position was open. Alexis spoke with the Pastor about her becoming the Choir Director for the church as she fell in love with the atmosphere, people and his sermons. Not long after, she was offered the position of the Choir Director; she was only 20 years old and a junior in college. She helped find a church organist to permanently work with her and the church to provide music to the English service. After several interim organists, the church hired Barbara Robbins as the senior organist and Madison Thompson as the junior organist.
Since then, Alexis has been planning music each week for the adult church choir that sings every Sunday seasonally, the holiday service music, Bell Choir and Youth Choir.
In August of 2023, Alexis LaNelle Maxwell started as the general music and choir teacher. She is so grateful for her experiences before that gave her the tools and skills to teach over 400 students music every week.
Every week, she prepares to teach 17 different music classes that align with her districts scope and sequence teaching ages 2 - 15! Her knowledge of children's developing music aptitude, gross motor and fine motor skills are seen in every lesson. She uses her expertise to teach the students not only how to read and sing, but to feel, create a passion and love for music in her lessons.
